Timothy Egan: Paul Allen is "Pear-Shaped, " Among Other Things
We really hope you haven't used up your free NYT access, because yesterday's Opinionator is well worth a read.
In it, local lit legend Timothy Egan examines both the man and the specter that is Paul Allen, through the lens of his forthcoming novel, "Idea Man." From the column:
"I know [Bill] Gates only in passing, for the record. He is a very inconspicuous rich man in his hometown. Allen, whom I’ve also met a few times, strikes me as an unfathomable Nowhere Man. I once spent an afternoon asking him random questions, and left with a notebook full of clichés — the typical Allen interview."
Truly, if you haven't read this, you must. If only because Timothy Egan is genius, Paul Allen is strange and we live in this city, build on both genius and strangeness.
