Neumos Brings You a Couple Dodos Tonight
The Dodos have stopped by our fair city (and the surrounding area) more than a couple times over the last few years. Tonight is the second time they'll grace the stage at Neumos, but they've played here before--once as a part of KEXP's Concerts at the Mural series shows, as well as at Sasquatch in 2007.
The Dodos started out as just one guy, Meric Long (love that name), who played solo in San Francisco and released an EP in early '05. Later that year, he joined forces with Logan Kroeber to form the group Dodo Bird. They released a full-length album, and began relentlessly touring for the next year. However, fans referred to them as the Dodos, so they soon defaulted to that moniker (it's way easier to say--good call guys).
Interesting fact--they released the 2009 Time to Die only as a digital download until their KEXP mural show in Seattle, where they sold the physical album for the first (and possibly only?) time. Weirdly enough, we happened to get ahold of one of those CDs and it is really fun. We highly recommend you pick one up, or download it, for your listening pleasure.
The opener for tonight's show is Reading Rainbow. One thing we'll give them, that's a killer name. TheirMyspace url is even more amazing: http://www.myspace.com/levarmotherfuckingburton. However, taking a listen to what they have to offer there, it's forgettable ambient pop. The lyrics don't really jump out, and the bands seems to rely solely on the guitar parts to push the songs forward. Unfortunately, they don't really pop out either. But it could just be the bad recording they've chosen to post, and they may have a great live show. For tonight's concert-goers sake (including our own), we hope so.
