My Chemical Romance at Showbox

chemical.jpg Remember My Chemical Romance? It's been a while, but we do. Formed in 2001, the New Jersey punk/emo/goth band made its claim to fame with 2004's Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, followed by 2006's concept album, based around a character who is dying of cancer, The Black Parade.

After an almost five-year hiatus during which time the members got married, moved to Los Angeles and made guest appearances at Comic Con. They came together again to create 2010's Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys, a well thought out character and theme based album. Set in 2019, the Killjoys (aka MCR) fight against an evil corporation known as Better Living Industries aka BL/IND. With the help of a pirate radio DJ that goes by Dr. Death Defying and a cast of similar characters, each song chronicles their journey to fight the good fight. Although the band has adamantly refused to call it a concept album, it sure sounds like a concept album to us.

Because of their blatant glam rock influences and strong visual components, we've kept a soft spot in our heart for the band that caused our increase in eyeliner consumption. back when we were more easily influenced. It would be a lie if we made any illusion to knowing what to expect other than our sincere hope their live shows will include a small portion of the drama that we fell in love with in the beginning.
