Intiman has Reached its First Fundraising Goal
Here's a piece of good news for the day. The financially-troubled Intiman Theater has reached their first fund-raising benchmark (if being $50,000 under your goal counts as "meeting it.")
We've been following the story as it has developed; there have been more ups and downs on their status than curtains rising and falling on their stage, and we're pleased to hear the moderately good news.
After the major financial catastrophe which befell the Intiman in November, the theater said that if they couldn't raise $500,000 by the end of March they were going to be forced to take a final bow. Meeting this goal saves them of that fate, for now.
They still need to raise $250,000 by June and an additional $250,000 by September. It's a lot of dough to ask for from a donor base who have been tapped to the hilt to rescue a theater from what can only be called gross mismanagement. Rumour has it that a very large donation from a very large local philanthropic organization may be coming down the pipes, which would the saving grace of the Intiman.
They contribute immeasurably to the cultural landscape of our fair city, and to lose the Intiman would be a major blow. You can learn more about their fundraising campaign at their website. Or better yet, you can go check out their new production of Arthur Miller's All My Sons.
In troubled times more than ever, the show must go on.
