Can't Miss It: The Weekend
BEATS ANTIQUE: The common vector of marching band, blues, world, and dance, Beats Antique is a mutable alliance of producers David Satori and Tommy Cappel catalyzed by world-renowned belly dance performer and music producer Zoe Jakes. Satori and Cappel both trained classically in Bali, West Africa, and Serbia, while Cappel and Jakes put in time with Extra Action Marching Band and the Yard Dogs Road Show. And Jakes, in addition to everything else, is a member of Miles Copeland's Bellydance Superstars and Rachel Brice's Indigo Belly Dance Company. From these lovely beginnings, Beats Antique waltzes to live electronic beats cut with brass band glitch, dubstep and glockenspiel. They perform tonight with ESKMO and The Tailor (as well as with the Sustainable Living Roadshow) at the Showbox. Dance backward.

NEW DRUM TATTOO: The Seattle Percussion Collective (SPC) is committed to exploring the world of percussion music composed by the masters of the twentieth century, as well as our contemporaries in the twenty-first century. Tonight, they present an evening of chamber music written for percussion instruments: In Memoriam…Esteban Gomez by Robert Ashley, Beaten Paths by Milton Babbitt, Letters from the Earth by Sarah Bassingthwaighte (World Premiere), Transition by Nat Evans (World Premiere), Music for Magnets by Paul Kikuchi (World Premiere), Canon #5 by Larry Polansky, I Riti: Ritual March by Giacinto Scelsi, and Bicoastal by Roger Zahab. Give yourself a concussion of drums, congas, bongos, bass drum, military drum cymbals, and gongs; a run of vibraphone, marimba, and orchestra bells; the shimmer of maracas and environmental rhythmic phenomenon such as rain sounds and old radiators.

GET WET: Moisture Festival swings into its third week by sidling into a new location: The Georgetown Ballroom! Check out the nation’s best Varietè festival on the holiday it was meant to celebrate: April Fools. Now in its 8th year, the Festival features new artists and returning favorites, far too many (especially as each show is different from the next) to list here. (Although we hear God's Favorite Beefcake may be making an unscheduled appearance late tonight.) Check the full schedule. And if you find yourself down in Georgetown, be sure to rumble through The Trailer Park Mall for their April Fools' party from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.

RUMMAGE MONSTER: Although it’s hard to believe on days like today, spring is fast approaching. And you know what that means: time to clean. So why not help out the Fremont Arts Council why you’re at it? This weekend and next, donate to and purchase from the Monster Rummage Sale, where all proceeds go to purchasing glue, scissors, and supplies for the upcoming parade season. Clean out your closets and garages so that a papier-mâché dragon might have wings.

PICOLO PEQUEÑO: Hosted by Seattle Flute Society (which: yes!), it’s time for the Flute Festival, a full day of activities revolving around the only woodwind family too good for a reed. See guest artist Denis Bouriakov, principal flutist of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, participate in a group warm-up and workshops, browse an exhibit hall with flute-makers and other vendors, and listen to the Young Members' Recital and a Flute Choir Showcase with the SFS Flute Choir performing a premiere of a newly commissioned work by local composer Clifford Dunn. Celebrate the wind. The woodwinds!
