Fort Union's Debut Show, Be There or Be Sqaure

fortunion.jpg Talk about bang for your buck, this Thursday's lineup at the High Dive is gonna keep your feet tapping and your booty shakin' all night long. We couldn't ask for a better bill of up and coming bands. We've been keeping a close eye on these guys and it's about time they're breaking the silence with a show.

Let's start with Fort Union. Since Friday Mile's last show in 2010, we've been dying to see what Jace Kraus is going to do next. When we heard he'd put together a band with Jake Rohr, there may have been a little bit of happy squealing involved. From what we're hearing in their first single via their bandcamp site, we can't wait to hear an entire set.

Another band with a little hype around town (but no doubt will be getting a lot more soon) is Young Lions. We managed to catch a show they played at Chop Suey last month and found ourselves inadvertently cutting a rug despite the fact we were sitting on stools. When we realized we were stool dancing, we embraced it and really started moving. It was a great time and they'll fit in perfectly with this talented folk-rock lineup.

Bryan John Appleby has been a part of the music scene for a little while now as well. He sings and plays a couple instruments (namely tambourine) in the alt-rock group Campfire OK. If you haven't checked them out, you're missing out on something amazing, but we digress. He has an incredible voice and manages to write songs that literally bring tears to our eyes. One in particular is about an older man that is blind and as the song progresses you realize he's singing to his beloved dead wife about their life together. It's heartbreaking and beautiful. We're looking forward to a full set since all we've seen recently are short bursts at Conor Byrne open mic nights.

Last, but certainly not least in this stellar quad-band lineup, is Widower. This band, mainly consisting of Kevin Large, has been making their way around town slowly to venues like Columbia City Theater and bowling over the crowd. Large has also been a part of the Seattle music scene for some time now in other bands like Grand Hallway while working through his next steps with Widower. You can guarantee he won't be under the radar for long, just like every other band playing this Thursday night show. So head out to the High Dive or that third tequila shot won't be the only thing you'll be regretting Friday morning
