Intelligence, Orca Team at Chop Suey Thursday

We firmly believe that The Intelligence appeals to Seattle folk because their insanely fun, post punk sound mixes perfectly with their hint of snarky dissatisfaction and humor, which (generally speaking) appeals to our grumpy sensibilities.

Lead singer and ever-constant member Lars Finberg (of the A Frames) is a prime example of a lead singer performing his duties to the fullest. Chock full of crazy, infectious and repetitive hooks, he's high energy and when encouraged, shows a little bit of crass behavior. We have yet to find an Intelligence song that we don't love or have fun listening to; and usually we don't even like to have fun.

Orca Team, another beloved Pacific Northwest band, are opening the show. Vaguely familiar, kinda dreamy and super catchy they also emit a sassy and debauchery-filled vibe that we'd imagine will be captured live quite nicely.

We love Intelligence's 'Bong Life' video, off of 2010's Males, for a variety of reasons. It's short and sweet, debatably inappropriate, and it was mainly funded by donations (!) after an extremely eloquent plea by local music video hero Carlos Lopez to create a music video with the help of Kickstarter.com. With the help of the community, they raised the funds. Please enjoy the fruits of their labor below, and don't miss a chance to hear it live.

Thursday @ Chop Suey // Doors at 8 p.m. // 21+, tix $8 adv/$10 dos
