Seattle Loves and Will Miss You, Elizabeth Taylor
So Elizabeth Taylor has no direct link to Seattle, but you know what? Who cares? She is the single most important movie star in the history of glamour, and she belongs (omg, belonged) to everyone. Including Seattle. She is a two-time Academy Award winner who outlived her obituary writer and set the world on fire with her talent, her beauty and her unstoppable tabloid fodder love affairs. My heart could not possibly be more saddened to hear that she has died and a eulogy on this site is warranted.
Elizabeth Taylor's impact on my life is profound. Elizabeth represents for me everything that is beautiful and glamorous and resilient. Elizabeth took all her life's tragedies with panache, knew that her role as the foremost movie star in the world came with great responsibility, was one of the first celebrities to bring attention the the AIDS crisis and was no shrinking violet. Elizabeth taylor was always doing her, and there's a lot to respect about that. While it is not often that I act with her Scorpio-like passion, "What Would Elizabeth Taylor Do?" is an internal question that has gotten me to speak my mind on more than one occasion.
She has taught me the value of strong eyebrows, red lipstick, and liquid eyeliner. Every time I tease my hair, I think of her. Everytime I put on my shortest shorts and go out on the town on a school night, I think of her. I think of her when I try to be a good friend and stand up for what's right. I think of her everytime I just say yes. The quickest way to my heart is to even vaguely hint that my channeling of her goddess-like beauty is coming through. There's nothing wrong with wanting to look your best and most beautiful.
Dame Elizabeth, you may be gone but you will live forever in the minds of every pretty brunette who wishes to be even half as beautiful as you were. You will live in stormy lovers quarrels and too much jewelry. You will be remembered in our favorite films and in the use of good manners. I, and all of Seattle, will miss you very much. May you rest in peace.
Some quotes and a remembrance narrated by another blue-eyed beauty, Paul Newman.
"The problem with people who have no vices is that generally you can be pretty sure they're going to have some pretty annoying virtues."
"It's not the having, it's the getting."
"I feel very adventurous. There are so many doors to be opened, and I'm not afraid to look behind them."
“I’m a survivor - a living example of what people can go through and survive.”
