Food Frenzy: St. Paddy's Day, Scotch and $1.06 Entrees at Ivar's

Happy St. Patrick's day. We promise not to inundate you with boiled potatoes, cabbage and corned beef, well maybe just a little. Instead we celebrate other time-honored traditions relevant to Irish culture, aka: whiskey.

St. Paddy's Day Revelry: LUC’s Chef, Seamus Mackenzie pays homage to his ancestors with a special menu tonight including Jameson & ginger cocktail $9, a very traditional “Bubbles & Squeak” a.k.a. corned beef & cabbage share plate $35 and for dessert, a Guinness & ice cream Float $8. Ironically, you won't find corned beef in Ireland on St. Patrick's day, Gourmet Live has the history on the holiday favorite. Going the green beer or whiskey drinking route? Stop at Po'Dog for a green wiener late in the night to get your fix. Green Machine for $5.50 featuring a Uli's GREEN bratwurst, cream cheese, sauteed onions, scallions and spicy mustard!There's nothing Irish about the green machine except that everyone wants some green sausage. The cupcake may not be the "it" trend of 2011, but local favorite Trophy still bakes a might delicious chocolate Guinness stout cupcake with Bailey's buttercream frosting, today though March 19. Where Ya At Matt Crawfish Boil: Bringing a time-honored Cajun tradition to the streets of Seattle, Where Ya At Matt will be bagging up boiled crawfish from the gulf along with standard accompaniments of andouille sausage, potatoes and corn on March 27, from 3 p.m. 'til they run out. The Creole food truck will be parking at the new Freelard bar/restaurant Le Bon Ton, who will be joining the celebration pouring beer, a necessary part of any New Orleans celebration.

Scotch Tasting at Library Bistro and Bookstore Bar: Learn about Glenmorangie single malt scotch from Moet-Hennessy ambassador Paul Johnson. Part of their third Monday tasting series, $30 buys you five tastes and appetizers prepared specifically for the event.

Fundraiser for Japan at Boat Street Cafe:
Renee Erickson will be donating the proceeds to the family of her employee Sachie Mikawa who lost their home when the tsunami flattened their village. The evening will include food, wine and items for sale donated by local artists, businesses, restaurants and authors.

Celebrate Ivar's 106th Birthday:
Celebrate Ivar's founder's 106th birthday, Tuesday March 22 at any Ivar's Seafood Bar, buy one entree for full price, the second, only $1.06 by exclaiming "Happy Birthday, Ivar" to celebrate founder Ivar Haglund. Full service restaurants will celebrate as well with the $1.06 entree special and $1.06 restaurants on Tuesday. Ivar an iconic figurehead of Seattle's waterfront, founding the aquarium in 1938, then opening his first fish stand as an extension.
