Can't Miss It: Thursday
VINES AND LINES: Richard Hugo House, where the poetry flows like wine and the wine flows also very similarly to wine. “Cheap Wine and Poetry” presents its first reading of 2011 tonight at Seattle's favorite literary home base, featuring poets Rebecca Hoogs, Sierra Nelson and Graham Isaac and poet-turned-comedian Emmett Montgomery. There are also open mic opportunities for anyone who cares to test their chops on an extremely happy audience. Why so happy? Because cups of wine are only one dollar, cheaper than espresso and metro fare. As always, there's no telling where or when the next event will be, so we're happy to demand the supply tonight.

THE KIDS ARE PLAYWRIGHTS: The 3-day Young Playwrights Festival at ACT Theatre begins tonight with four world premieres from four western Washington student writers. Eight plays in all will make their debuts at the festival, each one written by a local student between the age of 14-18. Each young festival playwright is partnered with a professional director, dramaturg, stage manager and actors, and each play receives two performances at ACT. Tonight's plays involve the hopes and dreams of a couple watching Jeopardy in This Is Jeopardy, a playwright forced to interact with her characters in Are You Sure You Want to Watch This?, a young gay man dealing with his sexuality in Civilized Manner, and a couple of Irish buffoons who discover a baby on their front lawn in Naive Nativity.

WINNING: It's been a tale of two seasons for the UW Men's basketball team. Starting off with a run of solid wins, high hopes and little potential competition, the Huskies finished the first half of the season strong and were supposed to cruise their way to a Pac-10 championship. But the team lost ground in the second half when losses started stacking up, injuries came in to play, and controversy struck the team. After everything, the Huskies finished third in the Pac and head into the Pac-10 Championship in Los Angeles with a 20-win season and a very good shot at making the NCAA Tournament, a place where every team can leave the regular season behind. Tonight the Huskies play cross state rival WSU, a must-win as far as we're concerned.
