A friend recently asked via twitter "what do you listen to when you need to clear your head and find some peace of mind". Immediately the song "Orange Sky" by Alexi Murdoch came to mind. His music springs to mind "Pink Moon" by Nick Drake or even Neil Young's "Harvest Moon". Alexi has an incredibly soothing voice that makes you want to kick back and drink a glass of lemonade on the porch in the summer watching fireflies light the evening sky. For a long time, he only had four songs available on an EP conveniently named Four Songs. Then, he sort of fell out of the limelight and honestly... out of mind. When we found out he was touring again we jumped at the chance to see him live, especially in such a small venue as the Tractor Tavern. We aren't ashamed to admit when we found out he had a record due out the same day as his Seattle date, we did a little dance of joy.

"Orange Sky" might ring a bell with some of you, it gained popularity after being featured in the movie Garden State as well as several television shows like Dawson's Creek, The O.C., Prison Break, House, Brothers & Sisters and Ugly Betty. It was on the EP as well as his first full-length released in 2006. We're ashamed to say this didn't even make it on our radar. Having heard some of the new album, Towards The Sun, it has the same soulful and soothing feel as his previous work. We've never been so happy to know that a musician has maintained the same style. There isn't a whole lot out there that fits the bill like Alexi's music does. It's sweet, melodic and you can listen to it with your eyes closed or playing in the background while you work. In either case, you feel much more relaxed and happier after having listened to it. The show at the Tractor is sold out, so we're obviously not the only ones who've realized how amazing this musician is. However, you can grab his new album starting tomorrow or even head up to Canada if you're free for his Biltmore Cabaret show. For now you can download the first single from the new LP on his bandcamp page. Don't forget to check back for the photo gallery from the show. We're really excited to be a part of the experience tonight, we'll see you in the front row!
