A Wacky Initiative That Didn't Come From Tim Eyman

SirMixALot.jpg A man has filed an initiative with the Secretary of State to change Washington's official song to the former Seattle Supersonics fight song recorded by our own Sir Mix-A-Lot for the 1992-93 playoffs. Ah, such were the days.

Admittedly, our current state tune, "Washington my Home" isn't nearly as catchy. But Kris Brannon, the Tacoma superfan who filed the initiative, needs to collect at least 240,000 signatures to get this fine piece of democracy on the ballot.

Brannon's initiative is more or less a protest of our current lack of an NBA franchise. According to SeattlePI, the proposal filed "would allow the state song to revert back to “Washington My Home” once a new franchise plays its first home game."

Let's see if this, just one of a parade of random initiatives that gets filed each year, actually goes anywhere. The SeattlePI has side-by-sides on the two anthems, but you can also get down to Mix's Supersonic musical stylings right here.
