The Strokes Angles Leaked...Sorta

strokes.jpg This morning music fans were going a little crazy. Thirty seconds of each song on the impending new release Angles by The Strokes was available on iTunes. One blog had comment after comment of frenzied techie and non-techie music lovers attempting to rip the previews and string them together (probably one blog of thousands with that string of comments).

Luckily, we don't have to know anything about how to do that since The End has done it for us. You can check out the sneak peeks here on their site.

The funny thing is, we don't think iTunes meant to leak the album at all. As of 12:00pm PST it's back to disabled and unavailable. Is this a PR trick to bring about even more hype? Or merely an intern that pushed the wrong big red button? Either way, we're glad The End caught it and swiped it for us to hear.

Our impression is that The Strokes seem to be a little scattered, but that's not necessarily bad. There are a lot of different styles sweeping through these songs and maybe that's due to only hearing thirty seconds of each, but probably not. More likely it's that they've waited five years to release an album and have a lot of music to put out in the universe from that hiatus. They most likely wrote, re-worked, refined, and produced a lot of songs in that time. Then, they chose the best ones and put 'em on a record. I'm hearing some seventies influences, the classic Strokes style, a bit of eighties synth pop, and some slower sweeter tunes as well. Thirty seconds or not, it's fun to hear what they've finally dubbed worthy to throw out into the world. What do you think?
