Dr. Maya Angelou at the Paramount Theater
February is Black History Month, and Seattle will be holding a belated celebration on March 14 as STG welcomes Dr. Maya Angelou to the Paramount Theatre. Her original February appearance was rescheduled because Angelou was in DC accepting a Presidential Medal of Freedom.
The iconic and accomplished Dr. Angelou has had an extraordinary life, much of which has been documented in her six autobiographical volumes, beginning with I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. The many roles she has played throughout her life include that of a poet, civil rights activist, playwright, director, actor, author, producer, director, and conductor. She has received national and international recognition including a Pulitzer Prize nomination, three Grammy Awards, and more than 30 honorary degrees. Recently, Dr. Angelou dove into radio media at the age of 82, hosting her first-ever public radio program in honor of Black History Month.
Tickets for the show are still available at the STG website. See a clip of Dr. Angelou's Washington, D.C. performance here.
