Check Out Columbia City for Great Music Tomorrow
You've heard about all the quality bands based out of Seattle and working their way up the ladder lately. Here's your chance to get in on the ground floor and say "hey, i saw them back when...". Personally, we love it when we can do that, does that sounds braggy? Tomorrow at Columbia City Theater there are a couple bands that could fit that category and you should definitely check them out. Seismic-Sound.com presents Hotels' cd release show with The Royal Bear and The Devil Whale. To top off the night, Marco Collins will DJ the spaces in between, you just can't lose.
Checking out The Royal Bear, we particularly like the song "Become the Stars". It's a little simpler sounding than their other tracks but that's what we like about it. Medium pace, steady cymbal hits, and sweet rhythmic sound accompanied by poetic lyrics. The rest of their songs from Attack are heavier rock, but there's nothing wrong with that. All in all it's fun music that you can dance to.
The real kicker of the night is The Devil Whale. A great mix of electronic, strong vocals with and without distortion, and traditional rock instrumentals. They manage to avoid the harder sound but capture the spirit of a good ol' fashioned rock band; a style that has been sorely missed in this town for some time. Maybe that's why the bluesy rock of The Black Keys is so popular with Seattle music fans, they're clamoring for what we've been missing. Seattlest recommends not waiting till ten to head over to CCT; get there at nine and check out the whole lineup. It's worth the little bit of extra time, plus you can grab a drink while you enjoy the tunes.
On a related note, keep an eye out in the near future for a collaboration between Seattlest Music and Seismic-Sound.com. There may or may not be a Presents show in the works where our two great music blogs will bring together some up-and-coming killer bands. We'll let you know the goods when it's nailed down; you won't want to miss it.
