Overheard in Seattle: Love is in the Air

In the run up to Valentine’s Day, Seattlest asked our readers to dig up the worst love bits floating around town. While we fully expected you to send us in the gushiest, grossest words of romance, you instead reminded us that Seattle lovin' is of a different breed...

Dear Fellas (part 1): You don’t have to have a home to have game:

One of our fine contributors walking down Third Avenue, spies a homeless man with a mischievous eyebrow raised.

Homeless dude: "Can I have a quarter?"

Seattlest Contributor (girl): "Sorry, dude."

Homeless man goes in for the kill: "Well can I buy you coffee sometime?"

Dear Fellas (part 2): Here’s something you DON’T want to hear your new girl say over Valentine’s dinner:

Sophisticated dining in a Seattle Thai restaurant.

Girl: “Is Thai food from Taiwan?”

Seattle *hearts* the Sonics and grammar

This past Wednesday, Twitter reported a hot, new trending hashtag: #yournotfromseattle. Among the tweets feeding this popular topic were a smattering of “If you don’t know who the Sonics are, you don’t belong here” posts. However, an even BIGGER pool of truly irate commentary was devoted to the use of “your” versus “you’re” in said hashtag…proving once again that the Seattleite speed is usually set to “passive”, but when it comes to grammar they ARE willing to kidney punch anyone that scorns the English language.

Here are a couple of winners from the thread:

Grammar Thug #1: “I am disgusted that "#YourNotFromSeattle" is trending right now. YOU ARE. YOU'RE. #@!$SAKE, PEOPLE, LEARN THE LANGUAGE YOU SPEAK.”

Grammar Thug #2: Why is #yournotfromseattle trending? Are we a bunch of #@!$ing illiterates that don't know the difference between you're and your?
