As announced, we had the pleasure of celebrating Say Hi's latest release, Um, Uh Oh, last friday at Neumos, along with The Globes and Cataldo.

We've got nothing but good things to say about both openers, which always sets a good tone for the evening. The Globes are indie pop at its finest, and seemed effortlessly comfortable on stage, which is is saying a lot seeing as they looked like they were still in high school (probably untrue) and haven't been around for very long (true.) Cataldo, consisting of Eric Anderson and friends, has a golden voice and mesmerizing songwriting capabilities, and we were endlessly impressed.

Say Hi's Eric Elbogen seemed genuinely sincere in his gratitude and surprise at the amount of folks--Neumos was packed--bobbing their heads with crossed arms along to his songs. His live set did a great job of capturing the essence of the crisp pop songs he creates, that manage to be both bittersweet and really uplifting. We were hoping for a couple more tracks off of the albums we've had crushes on for years, but were content and excited to hear a handful of tracks off his new album.

After seeing it live, however, we're especially bummed that we missed January 15th's open call for his latest single, "Devils," music video, which was shot by local music video wizard Carlos Lopez. According to The Stranger's Line Out, the video shoot took place at The Comet and supposedly involved hanging out and dancing. We'll be sure to let you know when it's been released, but until then we highly recommend you get your hands on his latest release, and don't miss it the next time Say Hi's in town.
