Woodland Park Zoo's Historic Carousel Going Solar
This month the Woodland Park Zoo is installing solar panels on the roof of its restored 1918 carousel. Zoo staff expect the panels to generate enough electricity to offset the carousel's operations. The carousel closes tomorrow and will reopen in early February once the panels are installed.
The project is being funded by a grant from Seattle City Light, which also helped bring solar power to the zoo's farm and a geothermal energy unit to the penguin exhibit.
