Ken Jennings Welcomes Our New Robot Overlords.
In the distant future, when robots rule the earth (we all agree that this is definitely happening, right?) they may point their cold, metal fingers back at February 14 as the day that things started to change. This is the day that they'll have the first crack at beating humans at our own game-shows.
Next month, Jeopardy is pitting a brand new super-computer nicknamed Watson against local Jeopardy super-champion Ken Jennings (as well as Brad Rutter another very successful contestant) to see if one of the world's most advanced computers can decode exactly what a 'potent potable' actually is.
Jennings, Rutter and Watson had their first test match this week. With Watson coming out on top (Jennings came in second). It appeared to have trouble figuring out what a children's book was, a category that Jennings happily ran the table with.
We're not so sure our local hero can overcome Watson's cold steely gaze, but if there is one thing we do know for certain, Jennings will definitely be prepared with a better anecdote for Trebek. We know how much robots hate stage-banter.
