EDDY KEEPS IT LIGHT: Have you ever consorted with a mermaid? Stared longingly at the sea? Kept a vigil on a widow's walk? Watched a ship dash itself to timbers or nearly been pressganged after a long night drinking? Such are the subjects of a chantey, the rollicking songs of sailors and lovers of the sea. Join Chris Roe on the Virginia V as she leads a ragtag crew in song. Come join in the chorus and get caught up in the promise of the open water.
Friday 8:00 - 10:15 p.m. // Historic Ships Wharf // FREE

VERY METAL: This weekend is the perfect time to bone up on metal technique. We're not talking speed arpeggios or double-time tapping, but the shaping of raw elements of the earth into works of art. Join Alair Wells as she demonstrates, explains, and discusses three different metalworking processes (forging, casting and fabrication) that she uses in her art. And since this is presented in conjunction with the Pratt Fine Arts Center, a wonderful organization that teaches and supports artists, this may be your first step towards bending metal towards your own beautifully personal aesthetics.
Saturday 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. // Bellevue Arts Museum // FREE

AT THE HOWL AND HAUL: The Deep Listening Band is Seattle trombonist Stuart Dempster, keyboardist David Gamper, and accordionist Pauline Oliveros, a composer collective that has spent the last 20 years exploring improvisational music in unusual spaces like a 2-million-gallon cistern, an old limestone quarry, or a lava cave. Now, after a weeklong residency spent understanding Town Hall's unique aural and tonal qualities, the DLB will present a surround-sound concert featuring the premieres of Great Howl and Town Haul, enhanced by the Expanded Instrument System tonal time machine and state-of-the-art sound from the University of Washington's Center for Digital Arts and Experimental Media. Which makes it sound to us like there's an excellent chance you're going to get knocked around in time.
Saturday 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. // Town Hall // $15 ($5 Town Hall Members, seniors, and students)

YOU SPOON FORK: Local heavies Titanium Sporkestra are a renegade marching band featuring members of Infernal Noise Brigade and TchKunG!. They're planning a trip to the great state of Texas for the first ever HONK!TX in March. (Look for Seattle's own HONK! Fest West in May.) Since the cost of getting a score of musicians and a ton of drums across the country is not inconsiderable, they're throwing a party to raise funds and announce their Kickstarter campaign. They've invited Brownstone, DJ DubTek, Aqueous, and k¥Le bija to stir up the floor and you to get stirred.
Saturday 8:00 p.m. // Fonda La Catrina // $10-20 sliding scale donation at the door (21+)
