California Man Charged With Threatening Seattle Congressman Jim McDermott

McDermott.jpg A California man has been arrested on charges of threatening to kill U.S. Rep Jim McDermott, a Seattle Democrat. News like this feels extra menacing as the nation continues processing the news of last weekend's horrible shooting in Tuscon.

According to SeattlePI.com, suspect Charles Turner Habermann of Palm Springs made the threatening calls to McDermott's office on December 9, a month before Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot.

Habermann has some previous run-ins with police after threatening some California lawmakers. The AP report contains some excerpts from the voice mails he left McDermott:

"He thinks he can steal money from people and give it away to losers and get away with it," the transcript of one call to McDermott's office reads. "I'll (expletive) hunt that guy down and I'll (expletive) get rid of him."

In the other, Habermann allegedly said, "If he ever (expletive) around with my money, ever the (expletive) again, I'll (expletive) kill him, OK."
