Participants Needed for Seattle Opera's “Barber of SEATTLE” Contests

Seattle Opera's production of Rossini’s The Barber of Seville will premiere on January 15th, and the company is prepared to celebrate the opera buffa in true frenzied style. “The Barber of Seattle”, a free event, will be presented on Saturday, January 8, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at McCaw Hall. The afternoon will feature live music and a trio of competitions pitting stylists, barbers, and hairy Seattleites against each other for prizes.

Seattle Opera's David Adam Moore, who will sing Figaro in the Sunday/Friday performances of The Barber of Seville, will be on hand to sing his character’s famous aria, “Largo al factotum”. Meanwhile, real-life barbers will race against the music to give a group of bearded Seattleites the smoothest, closest shave; hairstylists will compete to see who can give hair models the best new hairdo; and five bearded and/or mustachioed men will present their facial hair in an attempt to capture the title of “Seattle’s Best Beard.” Competitions start at 2 p.m.

Seattle Opera is currently searching for volunteers to compete at the event: five stylists, five barbers skilled in close shaving, and five bearded beauties who'd like to toe the line for "Barber of Seattle". In addition, five men with facial hair are needed (willing to undergo a shave) plus five hair models willing to undergo a hairstyle makeover. All selected participants will receive a pair of passes to the final dress rehearsal of The Barber of Seville at McCaw Hall on the evening of January 13. The winner in each category will earn a pair of tickets to a performance of the opera (as well as other mysterious prizes).
