Can't Miss It: Thursday

burlesque_nutcracker.jpg PLAY TIME: Woman Seeking... theatre company presents this satirical 1922 play by Pulitzer Prize winner George Kelly at Capitol Hill's Richard Hugo House. A play about a play, a group of loopy ladies has decided to stage a production, but they are met with challenges at every turn. Though nearly 90 years old, The Torch-Bearers easily entertains with fast-paced comedy and lots of physical gags.

7:00 p.m. // Richard Hugo House 1634 11th Ave. // $8 -$75

SWEET NUTCRACKER: We're all familiar with The Nutcracker. The traditional holiday classic in which, in which, well there's something about an uncle and a dream and then a nutcracker and some magic mice get big. Which is fun. But isn't it time we graduated to something a little more risque? Seattle burlesque all-stars Lily Verlaine and Jasper McCann celebrate opening night of the 5th anniversary of Land of The Sweets: The Burlesque Nutcracker! This spectacular version of the Christmas classic sets the Nutcracker to swing-era music, with choreography, drag, and aerialists galore.

7:00 p.m. & 10:00 p.m. // Triple Door // $25

IN THE GARAGE: San Francisco garage group Thee Oh Sees are back in town for a free show at Chop Suey with fellow bay-area garage rockers Bare Wires and Seattle's Night Beats; the name's similar to Sam Cooke's 1963 album, but the psych-rock trio bears a close resemblance to 60s experimentalists The 13th Floor Elevators. All three groups share a sound akin to late 60s early 70s lo-fi guitar experimentalism. We've been lucky enough to catch Thee Oh Sees in the past and are always impressed by the group's energy. The show is free with an RSVP. Arrive early.

8:00 p.m. // Chop Suey // Free w/ RSVP
