Countdown in Photos: Day 7
Seattlest will be counting down to 2011 with a series of posts on our highlights of this year and what we're looking forward to in the next. Got a list to suggest? Send it our way. See the entire series here.
Has it been a week already? It feels like only yesterday it had been 6 days! Yes, indeed it has. Day 7 brings us Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. Bumbershoot, this year, was an amazing foray into local and national acts of all styles. Several of my countdown pics are sure to be from the festival and this first one is a doozy.
As dusk fell on the wet, but warm, September evening a huge crowd restlessly awaited Sharpe to jump on the Broad Street stage. If I remember correctly, he was running a little late (then again, who isn't usually late to the stage at Bumbershoot) so chants of "Edward, Edward" were heard throughout the audience. It was surprisingly young and very devoted group of fans that crowded the front and they screamed as he finally came on stage in a white linen suit with no shirt or shoes. His hair up in a bun on the top of his head, stray hairs going in all directions, added to his the carefree attitude he already emits. Unfortunately the lighting was super low and he tended to be on the edge of the stage (or even down in the crowd to the delight of those young fans), so it was hard to see him most of the time, but he knows how to put on a show. It was an unexpected highlight of the weekend.
