Can You Dig it? Voter Turnout May Reach 1970 Levels
This just in from the Washington Secretary of State’s blog: voter turnout for the November election may hit levels not seen since Nixon was in office.
Before the election, officials were predicting, optimistically we might add, that voter turnout across the state would hit 66 percent. Well, now that more ballots have been counted, the Secretary of State is reporting that we’ll hit 70 percent. This is mighty close to 1958’s 71.15 percent and 1970’s record 71.85 percent.
If you are a square (like us), then we recommend checking out this handy updated chart of county-by-county turnout numbers. King county is holding strong with (at writing) 70.58 percent. Total voter turnout is at 70.55 percent, already passing 1958’s total.
Can we reach for that extra .30 percent and beat 1970’s record? Only time (and more counting) will tell. Counties must certify all election results by November 23rd, but things are looking up. We guess this means we aren’t stuck in the 90s after all. Dyno-MITE!
