"Seattle's Next Big Band" Grand Hallway at the Triple Door Tonight

Grand Hallway
By our (highly unscientific but we argue still valid) assessment, Grand Hallway is the local group whose press writeups by area music writers are most likely to contain the words "brilliant," "genius" or "masterpiece."

In a review of the band's 2009 release Promenade, Seattle Weekly lauded the LP as "orchestral-pop genius" and declared the band was destined for big things. Some three months later, at the start of the new year, City Arts put the band on its cover along with the words "Seattle's Next Big Band."

This summer, Sound on the Sound gushed over the band's 2010 Capitol Hill Block Party performance in a review that included phrases "absolutely spellbinding" and "truly unforgettable."

While we usually shy away from using such high praise when talking about local bands (outside of conversations about Perfume Genius), we certainly contributed to the scene's love affair with Grand Hallway and have declared the band to one of our favorites more than a few times.

If you're one who appreciates mature, richly scored chamber pop as well, then today has likely been circled on your calendar with anticipation weeks ago. Playing a venue that could not be more fitting if it were expressly designed with the band's sound and aesthetic in mind, Grand Hallway will be playing The Triple Door tonight. Other local area folk favorites Nick Jaina and Drew Victor will open.

7:30 p.m. (Doors at 5:30 p.m.) // The Triple Door // $10 (All Ages)
