520 Wants to Screw You Tomorrow

Sorry for the crassness, but it's too true. The Washington Husky Pigskin men are set to take on the UCLA Bruins (booooooo!) tomorrow evening at 5 p.m. in an uncommon midweek, weeknight matchup. That's nationally televised on ESPN. That Jake Locker was just cleared to play in. As his last home game ever. Fully 60,000 people are expected to show up and bark for Sark, throwing a wrench in the already commute-clustery area of Montlake.

You know when you randomly decide you need to head down to Filson Co. in SoDo to check out their fine outdoor wares, without a second thought to the fact that it's 12:45 on the day of a 1:00 kickoff Seahawk Sunday home game? Then you get there and want to punch yourself in the throat? Take that, and add it to the already massive bottlenecked 520 Microsoft/Eastside traffic dance. In other words, whoooooboy.

Metro buses are already pushed hard with evening commutes; the added extravaganza is likely to ripple out and affect all routes (i.e. you're not the first person to think "I'll show all of them and take I-90 instead!"), so be prepared. The athletic department is trying to compensate by chartering 340 buses to move 20,000 fans from various locations...you can learn more here. This also means Montlake Boulevard will be closed from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

We recommend you "work from home" with a bag of Cheetos and season one of Eastbound and Down, just to be safe.

Buses affected: Metro routes 31, 44, 65, 67, 68, 75, 205, 271, 272, 277, 372 and 273 and Sound Transit route 540 are being redirected between 2:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Thursday. http://metro.kingcounty.gov/up/rr/alertscenter.html
