Hurry, Hungry Seattleites! There's Still Time to Be a Part of Sprout #2
After the resounding success of Seattle's inaugural Sprout dinner, organizers didn't waste any time planning its sequel. Sprout #2 will take place this Friday at Fremont Abbey Arts Center, gathering Seattleites together for a locally sourced, community dinner which will ultimately help to fund the project proposal of an emerging local artist.
Participants will pay a sliding-scale entrance fee for which they will receive a home-made dinner and a ballot. Diners will vote on a variety of proposed artist projects. At the end of dinner, the artist whose proposal receives the most votes will be awarded funds collected at the door. The work will then be presented during the next SPROUT. Artistic genres of all kinds are accepted and are encouraged to be works that are sustainable, local and forward-thinking.
The inaugural Sprout in August raised an audience-funded grant of $1,000 for artist Whitney Aguirre, who will be giving an update on her project this Friday at Sprout #2. A new lineup of artists is scheduled present their projects, and you, the audience, will vote on who will walk away with the cash. (Check out the menu as well, developed by chef Anne Catherine of A Caprice Kitchen).
According to Kristen Hoskins, co-organizer of both events, "the caliber of artists proposals that we received were really incredible and it was hard narrowing it down to a number that we could fit into a manageable length for the evening."
The following artist proposals will be presented at Friday's dinner:
- The Topstache Project - Brandon Ilenstine (project leader)
- Song of Tent City - A K Mimi Allin
- One Forbidden Thing - Melanie St. Ours (director)
- A Better Container - Shannon Stewart
- Space Available - Vanessa DeWolf & Monica Mata Gilliam
- Heart of the Attack - Amanda Dellinger and the United Artists of Georgetown
Friday at 7 p.m. // Fremont Abbey Arts Center, 4272 Fremont Ave N // Tickets $20, 21+
