Transform Pain into Prose (and Other Writing Tricks) at 826 Seattle
Wallingford’s own nonprofit writing and tutoring center, 826 Seattle, invites you to “Write like I Do.” This year-long series of adult workshops happen (about) once a month. Each session features a talented writer sharing from past experience to help attendees enhance their writing skills. Proceeds from WLID workshops will help fund 826 Seattle's financial aid to young writers (ages 6-18) in the community.
Stop by tonight as Brendan Kiley shares “How to suffer for a Story.” Having written for the Boston Globe, Newsweek and the Stranger, he has truly suffered for his craft. Past writing-induced afflictions include butchering rabbits in his bathtub, spending a night lost in the woods with wild coyotes and even subjecting his bare ass to the whims of a professional dominatrix. This one-night-only class will discuss how to transform pain into prose.
“How to Write like I Do” continues this Saturday as award-winning sports writer Dave Zirin presents “How to Write about Sports for People Who Hate Sports.” Zirin, named one of “50 Visionaries Who Are Changing Our World” will examine how sports affect us all. He’ll also provide tips on covering sports in a way that garners attention from sports fanatics, haters and everyone in between.
