The McRib is Coming Back to Seattle. And Apparently It's a Cult Favorite.
We, dear reader, wanted to write a post alerting you that November 2 is an important day for America. Yes, it's election day and all, but according to the Eater blog, it's also the day McDonald's plans to make the McRib sandwich available at all its stores across the U.S. for the first time in 16 years.
But then we happened upon this piece from the Wall Street Journal. It chronicles how freaky people get about this sandwich of ground up, molded bits of pork that includes no actual ribs. Right now the McRib pops up sporadically at restaurants around the country. There's even a McRib locator website that helps you track what McDonald's locations are actually serving this elusive sandwich.
Consider the article's lead anecdote..
Before traveling to visit his parents in Nebraska last winter, Jeremy Duensing consulted what he always checks before a trip: the "McRib Locator" website. To his delight, he found a McDonald's restaurant near Omaha that, unlike most of the burger chain's 14,000 U.S. restaurants, had the McRib on its menu. He bought six of the pork sandwiches, ate one right away at the restaurant, and carried the rest home to Burnsville, Minn., in an ice-packed cooler.
Holy crap. People like their McRibs. They will only be available for a few weeks--thus allowing McDonald's to retain the sandwich's cult status.
