Can't Miss It: Tuesday
HITCHCOCK DOUBLE FEATURE: As a part of Revenge of All Monsters Attack!, the Grand Illusion will be showing a Hitchcock double feature with the all-time favorite horror films, The Birds and Frenzy tonight. Though many are familiar with The Birds, Frenzy is one of Hitchcock's later films; promising more explicit sex and violence as it details the "Necktie Murderer," who brutally kills and rapes women using--you guessed it-- a necktie. What would Halloween be with a little Hitchcock to get you warmed up?
The Birds, 6:30 p.m.; Frenzy 8:45 p.m. // Grand Illusion Cinema // Tickets: $5-8
CHANNELING BILLIE HOLIDAY: The Triple Door will be hosting Strange Fruit tonight with international cabaret extraordinaire Joey Arias and his longtime pianist/co-conspirator Eliot Douglass. Having performed in the past with the likes of David Bowie and as a 2009 GLAAD "Off Off Broadway" award winner, Arias is back in Seattle with his unique voice to pay tribute to the lovely Billie Holiday and put a modern, avant garde take on her unforgettable classics.
7:30 p.m. // The Triple Door // Tickets: $22-25
THE SOUND OF MUSIC: The New Yorker music critic Alex Ross will be at Town Hall tonight to discuss his latest book on music, Listen to This. Whereas Ross' first book, The Rest is Noise, covered the history of 20th century music, Listen to This offers a panoramic view of how we see and know the world in terms of music, covering everything from classical to current pop hits, high school marching bands and much more.
