This year’s City of Music Awards was held last Wednesday at The Showbox at the Market. With over 500 people in attendance, the event honored Clarence Acox and Scott Brown directors of Garfield and Roosevelt High School Jazz Bands with the Impact Award, Brandi Carlile with the Breakout Award, and Gerard Schwarz with the Outstanding Achievement Award. A Garfield and Roosevelt High School All-Star Jazz collaboration played in honor of Acox and Brown, along with a special Big Brass Tribute to Gerard Schwarz. A special pre-recorded live video performance by Brandi Carlile was shown as well. The awards recipients were selected by the 21-member Seattle Music Commission.

The second annual City of Music Awards also served as the kickoff for the inaugural City of Music Festival, "a month of vibrant and diverse music in Seattle that brings together dozens of shows, hundreds of artists, and thousands of fans to celebrate Seattle’s diverse and thriving music community."

Along with the City of Music Awards, the City of Music Festival features events such as Sunday's Run Vera Run (read Gina's preview here), the Seattle Hip Hop Career & Business Expo, and Seattle Weekly's REVERB Local Music Festival in Ballard (stay tuned for a hefty preview from Morgen).
