Scoreboard: This Weekend in Seattle Sports
Huskies Have the Trojans' Number
For the second straight season, the UW upset perennial Pac-10 powerhouse and 18th-ranked, USC. It came down to the nail-biting final seconds of the showdown at the Coliseum for the Huskies to pull it off, but kicker Eric Folk knocked in a field goal as the clock wound down to bring the score to 32-31. The Huskies are favored over Arizona State next week, so here's hoping that they can string two wins together.
Seahawks Lose...Badly
In what was a truly embarrassing performance, the boys in bluish-green were routed by the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. Here are a few stats to show how bad this one was: Hasselbeck was sacked 4 times, the quarterback with the highest passer rating on the field was actually a fullback (Michael Robinson), the Hawks offense couldn't manage to get past midfield in the second half, and perhaps the most telling fact is that we didn't manage to score a single touchdown all game. However, there were moments of brilliance, but they came from the commentators. Like when they were describing defensive player Aaron Curry: "He's not a guy you want thinking a whole lot." Oh well, at least we have a bye week to look forward to.
AL Playoffs All Locked Up
The four teams from the American League to make the playoff cut are: the Minnesota Twins, the New York Yankees, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, and the Texas Rangers. Notice that our Mariners didn't make that list? Well, that's no surprise. Larry Stone over at the Seattle Times thinks that "2010 will be remembered as worst ever for Mariners." We'd be inclined to agree with him.
Cougars Were Winning, But Lost
On college football Saturday, various scores rolled across the bottom of the screen. When the Washington State v. UCLA score popped up, we had to do a double take. The Cougs were winning, by more than a touchdown! However, in the fourth, the Bruins overcame whatever post-Texas hangover they were afflicted with and scored twice to lock up a final victory at 42-28.
