826 Seattle Launches New Local Anthology
Last week, literary non-profit 826 Seattle announced the release of its latest publication, "What to Read in the Rain." The book, available October 1, contains 300 pages of Northwest-centered stories, poems, essays and recipes from well-known Northwest authors and 826 Seattle youth participants. Among those authors who participated are Tom Robbins, who contributed the book's introduction; Seattle restaurateur Tom Douglas, who shares a pancake recipe; David Guterson, speaking for the trees and actress Lauren Weedman, adding a hilarious take on a doomed relationship.
826 young authors have contributed stories in the likes of a girl who saves the lives of Bill and Melinda Gates, a meeting of the Northwest Mythological Creatures Organization and a pair of siblings who chase a giant marshmallow man up the outside of the Space Needle.
826 has partnered with several Seattle hotels, including the Pan Pacific Hotel and the Sorrento, to make the anthology available to their guests. Copies of "What to Read in the Rain" will be on hotel nightstands across the city, freely available for perusal, examination, edification, and other such synonymous words. Guests who wish to keep their rainy-day reading material can credit their room accounts with a payment of $15.00 at check-out time.
826 Seattle will be holding a publication party for "What to Read in the Rain" at its Greenwood location on October 23, 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Check the 826 website soon for more information about the book and the publication party.
