Paint Seattle Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

pink.png The Stones may have wanted to paint it black, but Susan G. Komen of Puget Sound want you to paint it pink. That’s right, pink. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month so we want to see the entire Emerald City covered in this delicate rosy hue.

One woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes. Even more startling, in the US alone, one woman will die of breast cancer every 13 minutes. Washington State has one of the highest incidences in the country, so it is imperative we come together to find a cure for this deadly disease.

Several local businesses have signed on to help including Molly Moon’s Ice Cream, Macrina Bakery, Exofficio and Salty’s on Alki. Qwest Field will illuminate the stadium in pink; Four Seasons Hotel will offer “Paint It Pink Pedicures” and Pagliacci will feature a pink pizza box. A percentage of proceeds from product sales and services will be donated to Susan G. Komen to support their many advocacy efforts. Paint It Pink kicks off today at Mobile Chowdown, where Evergreen Health Care’s mobile mammography truck will offer free mammograms (by appointment) from 5-10 p.m.

If your business would like to get involved, simply complete the online pledge form. You can also support the cause by making an online donation. We encourage you all to help paint Seattle pink by visiting one (or more) of the many participating local businesses. Oh, and don’t forget, on Wednesdays this month we wear pink.
