West Seattle and the Rodeo, Pot-Stirrers

Litte did we "mainlanders" know that West Seattle has been plotting and planning for some time now. They even have their own mayor which, rumor has it, is Brent Amaker of Brent Amaker and the Rodeo. If you haven't caught one of this band's live appearances, most recently at Bumbershoot on the Starbucks stage, then you're missing out. They really know how to put on a show as evidenced by the "Please Stand By" sign prefacing their stage entrance as a sexy nurse cleans every last surface they may touch, the red cape adorning Amaker's shoulders, and the black outfits covering each and every member from head to toe.

It would not be a surprise at all if he were the unnamed mayor of West Seattle so often causing a kerfuffle across the bridge and on the West Seattle Funblog. He is humble about his title, however, as he says on his Facebook page "I am Mayor of West Seattle. I know this, because West Seattle Funblog tells me it is true." What kerfuffle could such a quiet and cute community cause, you might ask? Well the most recent one is Initiative 10000002 or the "West Seattle Citizens for Left-Side Driving".

You may be feeling a bit confused by this news, we are certainly flummoxed. Why would West Seattleites want to drive on the opposite side of the road as the rest of the city... the rest of the country come to think of it? In their own words "We the citizens of West Seattle are unique and superior to all others residing within the territory known as Seattle, Washington. We will not be restricted by laws and regulations created by the mainlanders...". See what we mean about plotting and conniving? This sounds like a major undertaking and reminds us of those pesky Ballard folk and their anti-annexation talk. Keep an eye on your westy brethren, they may be stirring the pot just out of view.
