Can't Miss It: Thursday

SHAKE, RATTLE & HANG 10: The three-day Shake the Shack Rockabilly Ball begins tonight with Surf Nite at The Tractor. The Ball, presented by KEXP, is in its 23rd year and 2010 starts off with four groups that keep the waves rolling and sun shining. Remember this summer? Yeah, us neither. But we remember a summer, and that's all we need to bask in the joy that is surf rock. Seattle bands The Mercury Four and King of Hawaii join San Francisco's Frankie & The Pool Boys and Souther California's Slacktones. Vocals? We don't need no stinking vocals. We got surf rock. Three day passes are only $30. Buy tickets individually and they're $18.

9:00 p.m. // Tractor Tavern // $18

GLASS-EYED GIRL: Seattle may be about as far away from the American South as you can get, but we all know what it's like to be a Southern club-footed girl that's obsessed with tiny glass creatures and whose brother sets her up with a man who comes over for dinner and then turns out to be engaged to another woman, so we get so mad at our brother that we scream at him to leave, and then he never comes back again but remembers the whole thing vividly years later. Right?

8:00 p.m. // Theater Schmeater // $15-$18

DEMON DEAKIN: Josh Dibbs has been mysteriously missing from the Animal Collective lineup since 2007's immaculate Strawberry Jam, and though he's worked with the group in a production role after leaving the stage, Dibbs aka Deakin has all but faded from the Collective. But the avant-garde guitar player finally returned to the stage this year, playing his first solo show ever on January 1st, which was recorded, shared online, and acts as his only recording to date. His music is subtle, meditative -- as drony as Panda Bear's but expansive in different ways. His presence in AC may be missed, but he's carrying his own torch well.

7:30 p.m. // Vera Project // $11
