Can't Miss It: Thursday
PERFECT STORM: So here we are -- Game 3. Can the Storm sweep their way to the WNBA championship? With scores as tight as they've been over the last three games, it may take some extra effort on the Seattle Storm's part to win against the Atlanta Dream tonight on Atlanta's home court. Fans will want to give it their all as well, and though they can't enjoy the away game at Key Arena, fans can watch the game on the big screen at Center House Stage at the Seattle Center. Which is nearby at least. We can't think of a better way to celebrate the biggest win of the season than with hugs and high fives with perfect strangers. "Stranger" is the wrong word, though. When everyone's in gold and green, glued to the same TV screen, there are no strangers.
5:00 p.m. // Seattle Center // Free
HEY BASSOON: Don't make it bad. Take a sad song and make it bette-e-er. Seattle Symphony begins its Seattle Pops Series with Live and Let Die: A Symphonic Tribute to Paul McCartney. Though "Live and Let Die" is a bit of a downer of a title for a night of McCartney tunes (come on, "Hey Bassoon" is gold), we can't argue too much with it. The intensely epic James Bond theme song translates perfectly to symphony, as do plenty of other McCartney songs. Paul always did seem partial to traditional instrumentation. Seattle Symphony's tribute includes a vocalist, drummer, guitarist and keyboardist. They note that "Mr. McCartney will not be in attendance." Axl Rose might show up though.
7:30 p.m. // Benaroya Hall // $17-$85
DIPS AND SALSA: For all the movers and the shakers out there -- and we know how much Seattle loves to move and shake -- the four-day Seattle Salsa Festival begins tonight with a Pre-Party at restaurant/dance club Habana Sodo. The evening, which is scheduled to last until 2 a.m., features Salsa and Brazilian dance performers and Cuban Salsa DJs. The Festival continues through the weekend with a party at El Malecon, another party at Habana Sodo, and for those who aren't utterly partied out, a day full of Salsa workshops at Mambo U Dance Studio.
