Can't Miss It: The Weekend

FREE COCONUT HALVES FOR EVERYONE: Few movies are as quotable as Monty Python & The Holy Grail. We can quibble over whether it's the best thing the group ever did, or the best piece of pop culture humanity has produced so far, but you can't deny the genius of lines like "Let's not bicker and argue over who killed who." Or "Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time." We could do this for hours. Thankfully, The Action Pack understands and is hosting a quote-along of The Holy Grail at Central Cinema. The subtitles will be on, but we suggest you brush up.
Friday 7:00 & 10:00 (later show 21+) // Central Cinema // $10

BUMBERSHOOT!: At 40 years old, Bumbershoot is a rich and complex festival, one of the strongest curated events of music, art, and people not only in Seattle, but nation-wide. There's so much, in fact, we couldn't hope to touch on even a fraction in this little graf. Which is why we've been talking your ear off all week about it: there was Ways to Celebrate (and another, and another), a look beyond the mainstage, our best bets, a couple of chuckles with our local comedians, and what we consider the acts you can't miss. Go celebrate with the Shoot!
Saturday - Monday 11:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. // Seattle Center // $22-40 (Ticket prices vary)

JOUST SLASH PILLAGE: Did you know that Seattle has its own Knight troupe? Somehow we did not. Which is weird, because a bunch of people on horses, in armor, fighting each other with swords is the sort of thing that calls attention to itself. So we are pleased as Punch to go wander Volunteer Park this weekend with the merry men, chaste wenches, and gallant folk of the Seattle Knights during their annual Medieval Country Faire. There will be plays, merchants, a battle royale, and maybe a wizard or two.
Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. // Volunteer Park // FREE

STEPHEN, I'M ENCHANTED: Pavement continues their triumphant return, or, rather, their half-assed shrug-fest of memory crushing cash-ins, at the Paramount this Sunday. Not that we begrudge them! As led by Stephen Malkmus, Pavement embodied a slacker movement in tossed-off lyrics and ramshackle shows that spoke to a generation unsure about growing up, and did so years before we could go see them live. With Portland quirkers Quasi, we expect this show to be pretty cool, we guess.
Sunday 8:00 p.m. // Paramount // $32
