  • The Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs launched a new website last week, highlighting thirteen neighborhood art walks throughout the city. Seattle Art Walks includes a neighborhood map of Seattle surrounded with the names of areas hosting art walks.
  • Seattle Repertory Theatre's New Play Program presents the first public reading of Seattle playwright Cheryl L. West's new musical, Pullman Porter Blues. The two workshop presentations will be Sept. 18 and 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Leo K. Theatre. Tickets for the workshop are $15.   • Taproot Theatre’s Acting Studio offers its popular Drama with Your Mama class in two locations this fall. Toddlers ages 1 to 3 years are paired with their parents or caregivers in a class designed to activate their imaginations. Classes will take place in Seattle and Shoreline.
  • Through Labor Day, Strawberry Theater Workshop is offering any tickets to the first nine performances of Breaking the Code for just $10, one-third of the regular price ($30). To take advantage of the offer, go to Brown Paper Tickets and select a date between Sep-9 and Sep-25. When the price page appears, enter the password CURSE and the special price will appear.
  • The Seattle Genre Film Festival runs September 17-19 at SIFF Cinema (McCaw Hall). The festival offers exposure to films that traditionally are overlooked by the festival circuit from genres including animation, fantasy, horror, and science fiction.
  • Call for entries is now open for SIFF 2011. SIFF is seeking features, documentaries, short films, and animation for the 37th annual festival - final submission deadline is January 3, 2011.   • And we missed this last time 'round: Artistic Director Peter Boal has announced that Emil de Cou will be joining Pacific Northwest Ballet as its new Music Director/Principal Conductor. Currently the Associate Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra (Washington, DC), Mr. de Cou will conduct the PNB Orchestra during the 2010-2011 season performances of Cinderella (February 4 - 13, 2011) and Giselle (June 3 - 12, 2011). He will join the company full-time at the start of PNB’s 2011-2012 season.
