Can't Miss It: Thursday

doobie_brothers.jpg FLEUR DE VIE: As a part of the Vincent Moon Retrospective, Northwest Film Forum presents - La Faute Des Fleurs. Vincent Moon, creator of La Blogotheque's Take-Away Shows (which if you haven't seen, take a break for now and knock yourself out) received an email from a fan that invited him to Japan to film folk musician Kazuki Tomokawa, aka "The Screaming Philosopher," a man who drinks, gambles, and otherwise attempts to bring life as he knows it to a screeching halt. The film, shot in Moon's general and generally beloved style, tells a story of passion, addiction, and artistic singularity. View a trailer here. This presentation is one night only, with two showings.

8:00 p.m., 9:30 p.m. // NWFF // $6-$9

DOOBIE DOOBIE. DO.: Listen to the music. Whoa-ay-ohh. What really got people into the Doobie Brothers - you know, besides the doobies part - must have been the way the Doobie Brothers really demanded that the listener move. Calls to action. Just look at these song titles. Takin' it to the Streets. Rockin' Down the Highway. Long Train Runnin'. It Keeps you Runnin'. Take Me in Your Arms. It's like the lyrics told you what to do, and what you should do is be on the move. Plus all those adorable apostrophes. There's no denying the significance of the Doobie Brothers, which is why we would never ask you to. And there's no denying they have one of the best group names of the 70s, though admittedly the competition was weak. Sorry Kansas, Boston, Chicago, and Alabama; these guys were American without having to name themselves after a place in America. Now that's just alright.

7:00 p.m. // Marymoor Park // $48-$68.75

WORKIN' AT THE: Free Carwash! Say hello to a 53-year-old local business and watch as the old brown bear washes your car for free. Free is only $1.50 cheaper than a wash would have cost in the 50s, but in a 21st Century double dipping drag of an economy, free is like a breath of clean --environmentally friendly -- air. Brown Bear Car Wash has been steadily expanding since its was born in Ballard in 1957, making sure to filter pollutants from the water it pours back into neighborhood water supplies. Check out the company's website for a full list of locations that are giving away car washes for the rest of the day.

8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. // Brown Bear Car Wash // Free
