Playoff Sports! In Seattle! Honest!

There have been very few bright spot in the Seattle sports scene of late, as The Seattle Times has been ever-so-helpfully reminding us all week, but the city's one perennial contender--the Storm--make yet another trip to the playoffs tonight. What's more, they're the prohibitive favorites to take home the WNBA title after a record-setting regular season.

The Storm tied a WNBA record by winning 28 games this season and set a new mark with their perfect 17-0 record at home. As the #1 seed in the Western Conference, they host the Los Angeles Sparks in a three-game opening-round series that starts tonight at Key Arena at 8:00.

This is the team's sixth straight playoff appearance since they captured the WNBA championship in 2004. Each of those previous five occasions ended in a first-round exit, the last two coming at the hands of the hated Sparks, which adds a nice flavor of revenge to tonight's game. So tune in to ESPN2 tonight or, even better, grab some of the remaining tickets and see all the action in person. That is, if hearing people chant "Beat L.A.!" in Key Arena doesn't instinctively make you reach for your Michael Cage throwback jersey to dry your tears...
