Light Pollution, Casiokids Friday Night at Vera Project

Hailing from Chicago, Light Pollution’s sound is layered and dense, coated with (not excessively, but carefully placed) repetition, that earns them the Animal Collective comparison they’ve recently received. Synth heavy and dripping with sounds, Light Pollution’s music is vaguely reminiscent of driving through a city really late at night, or at least what it must look like to watch one of those bioluminescent fish (the kind that everyone reads about, but no one is ever lucky enough to actually see) washed up on the shoreline. In the past they’ve toured with kindred shoegazers like Deerhunter and Best Coast, and will continue to tour through the fall, playing songs off their latest release entitled ‘Apparitions,’ which debuted this June via Carpark Records. With song titles like “Fever Dreams” and “Drunk Kids,” we sense that the hype they’ve received since they hit the music scene is well deserved.
Joining them tomorrow night (and on the August leg of their tour) is Casiokids, a Norwegian “electro troupe” of techno beats, crazy catchy pop songs, and jaunty thrums (their blog is titled Happyjokes, for god’s sake) that promise a high energy barmy fest. We anticipate this show to be something like a midnight dance party at a beach house.
