Can't Miss It: Wednesday
YEAH YOU KNOW WHAT THIS IS: It's a day to celebrate the memory of the Lusty Lady, a young Harrison Ford, and the good old days of bringing a gun to a knife fight. We celebrate the period before the sequel, which would have been more appropriately named the Temple of Poon with the awful casting of Mrs. Spielberg as the leading lady. We celebrate James Woods being locked up in warehouse, though we're to believe that he is being studied by top men. Raiders of the Lost Ark screens tonight through Wednesday.
9:30 // Central Cinema // $7
VAGINAL WEIGHT-LIFTING AND AMPUTEE BOWLING LEAGUES: Stiff author Mary Roach is in town to promote Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void. She's the kind of science writer we love-the sort that asks the questions no one else dares to ask, like what happens if you vomit in your space helmet? And she explores the topics we all find fascinating, in this case finding out what astronauts will need to do to leave Earth behind to explore the planet Mars.
7 pm // University Book Store // $5 or FREE w/ book purchase
INTERNATIONAL POP OVERTHROW: The pop music festival is back for its 4th year in Seattle. IPO spans 4 nights and includes several local acts. Tonight's show features Seattle bands The Copper Kings, Gary Reynolds and the Brides of Obscurity, Horace Pickett, and The Broadcast Debut and Portland bands Brave Chandeliers and Jokers & Jacks. Brave Chandeliers, a couple of guys who admirably bailed on the 9 to 5, just released their first album and are tonight's opener.
