Can't Miss It: Tuesday
BIKE TO DINNER: Spoke & Food will be happening tonight at 14 various Seattle restaurants including Dad Watson's, Snoose Junction Pizzeria, and the Montlake Ale House. This evening of dining and bikes hopes to promote bicycling as a mode of transportation when traveling to places that are in or around your neighborhood. Each of the 14 included restaurants have also agreed to donate a percent of their revenue from the evening to the local non-profit program Lettuce Link at Solid Ground. Overall, a good chance to get out and meet fellow bikers in the 'hood, eat some great food, and help a good cause. Check the website for details on the restaurants, bike maps, and more.
All night // Fremont, Ballard, West Seattle, Eastlake, and more
THE NEVERENDING FEBRUARY: Shane Jones will be reading from his debut book Light Boxes tonight at Elliott Bay Book Company. Comparable to a modern day fable, the short story explores a town that is trying to free itself from the month of February (a person as well as a larger metaphor), which may just sound a little too familiar considering the summer we've been seeing so far. We just finished reading this fantastic gem-of-a-book last week and it is INCREDIBLE--we highly recommend checking it out. Eerie, beautiful, and Jones' writing is just fantastic. We also hear that Spike Jonze has snapped up the film rights to adapt Light Boxes--oh. hell. yes.

GET TO KNOW A LOCAL POET: Elizabeth Austen will be reading from her debut chapbook The Girl Who Goes Alone at the Hugo House tonight for her book release party. The chapbook features "poems in the voices of women in various states of unease—self-aware and not—struggling with matters of faith, identity and love." Austen is known for her weekly author interviews on KUOW, work at the Hugo House, and in 2007 she served as the Washington "roadshow" poet, giving readings and writing workshops in rural areas around the state. Wine, cocktails, beer and books will be available for purchase!
