Free Outdoor Concerts > Eating Lunch In Your Cubicle
You know when you’re just sitting at your desk job and you look out your window (if you’re lucky enough to have one) and think to yourself, “The whole world is floating by enjoying the day and I’m trapped in my cube listening to Michael Buble on satellite radio”? Yeah. That sucks. But you can fight back! Go outside, get some fresh air and vitamin D and purge those crooners out of your ears, because you deserve better. And now that it is at least officially summer, opportunities abound to catch a free live concert in the sun all over downtown Seattle.
The Downtown Seattle Association presents their annual series ‘Out to Lunch’. Now in its 31st year, they host concerts in seven different locations in downtown ranging from the Harbor Steps to Westlake Plaza every Wednesday and Friday. Featuring a wide array of genres from jazz to folk to swing, the series lineup includes local and national acts. Especially anticipated by your Seattlest are the Hey Marseilles concert this Friday at the Harbor Steps, the Legend Quartet featuring Garfield Jazz Band Director Clarence Acox on July 16 at Westlake, and the rockabilly sensations The Dusty 45s on August 25th at the Harbor Steps. All the concerts start at noon, go until 1:30, and are free and open to the public.
As if that wasn’t enough, the Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs has their annual ‘Concerts at City Hall’ series every Thursday in July and August. Again there is something for everyone, from Jamaican reggae to R&B, with concerts running from noon to 1:30 at the City Hall Plaza. We are especially excited about our personal favorite kiddie-pop group The Not-Its!, who sing catchy pop songs about turning your room into a spaceship and going on play dates. Our inner children are very pleased.
So that makes free outdoor concerts on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays all over this city. Well, at least all over downtown. Now step back from your Outlook Inbox and go check it out. Your earbuds will thank you.
