Sure Played A Mean Pinball: Photos From The 2010 NW Pinball and Gameroom Show
Your Seattlest spent a good chunk of weekend at the NW Pinball and Gameroom Show at Seattle Center this weekend, and boy was it good for the soul. Never has the sound of hundreds of pinball machines, clicking and tweeting, whirring and shrieking, laughing and goading and shit-talking their human operators been a more soothing refrain.
Our personal favorite board was the excellent Lord of the Rings, while Simpsons Pinball Party left us wondering why it has been so long since we played such a great game. If we had one regret, it's that we never got to find out if Waterworld the pinball game is as awesome as Waterworld the movie. Since we couldn't squeak in for a round - it was probably the one game that someone was always on - we're willing to assume that the pinball is, like the film, a stunning masterwork that represents the fullest and finest expression of its medium.
You can take a look at Friday, day one of the three day event, in the gallery below, and more of our favorite parts of the show after the jump.
Best AKA Game: Cosmic Gunfighter - some people call him Maurice.
Best 'My Childhood Could Beat Up Your Childhood' Moment: Hey, Twilight vampires. You know who has a pinball game? Dracula. And you know what else? Dracula's pinball game kicks ass. Do you have a pinball game yet? We thought not. Game. Set. Match.
Best Pinball Concept: Dr. Dude, where a geek uses science to transform himself into a cool dude, which apparently involves having a blond pompadour, X-Ray spex and what looks like a compact disc surgically implanted in your forehead. Based on the true story of Carl Dude, M.D., who, following a string of malpractice suits in the late 1980s, fled to a less than reputable region of Central America to ply his controversial, borderline illegal trade in male enhancement surgery.
Biggest Reality Check: As good as you ever were at Street Fighter II when you were 13 - that's about as good as you are ever going to be at Street Fighter II.
Biggest Revelation: Data East Slapshot! We've never had so much fun pressing a button before!
Biggest 'I Wish I Had A Controller To Throw Across The Room' Moment: The hell with you, Burger Time. The hell with you.
Most Unsung Heroes: The seemingly tireless machine medics who kept everything humming along. Thanks, guys!
Most Satisfying Target To Repeatedly Strike With A Ball Bearing: The goddamn gophers in No Good Gofers. By a sight.
