Re:Take: OMG XXX LOL
Re:Take is local history buff Rob Ketcherside's weekly look at the Emerald City now and in days of yore through photos dug out of the city archives. This week, we watch the growing members of our fast food nation in SODO.

"OMG FLAVOR" "LOL @ HUNGER" -- Burger King, 2010.
"Served in the Car. Come any time, but come!" -- Triple XXX Barrel, 1940.
From the 30s to the 50s, Triple XXX was a Seattle institution, selling burgers, fries, and the XXX Barrel line of root beer. This one at 3301 4th Avenue South was the "largest and finest in the Northwest", opened in 1940. Another opened at Yale and Olive that same year. They were everywhere, and franchises spread across America.
Today there are two left in the country. Lucky for you, one is in Issaquah. Click through to read its American-dream story, just like last week.
That page ends saying "Sadly, most Triple XXX restaurants eventually gave way to the onslaught of fast-food outlets."
In this case, literally.
This concludes the three-stop mini burger tour. Next week, Seattle's tall, white column.
