Can't Miss It: Tuesday

PROP 8 = HATE: The Egyptian Theatre will be showing the SIFF standout 8: The Mormon Proposition today, a documentary that reveals just how involved the Mormon Church was with California's infamous Proposition 8. Director Reed Cowan, a former Mormon missionary, and Steven Greenstreet unravel the Mormon's orchestration and involvement with the political movement to stop gay rights while following a Californian gay couple, Spencer Jones and Tyler Barric--who just so happens to be a direct descendant of an early, prominent Mormon Church leader. Greenstreet, Jones, and Barric are as well all scheduled to attend today's screening.

4:15 p.m. // Egyptian Theatre, 805 E. Pine St. // Tickets: $7-8

JAZZ IT UP: We. Love. This. The Roosevelt High School Jazz Band will be playing tonight at the Triple Door for all of you Seattle jazz lovers that possibly didn't get enough Big Band loveliness out of your system during Honk! Fest. Regardless of the fact that we've become obsessed lately with the music featured on Treme, this high school jazz band is nothing to mess around with. Under the direction of Scott Brown, the Roosevelt High School Jazz Band is considered to be one of the top high-school jazz bands in the nation. They even play internationally!

6:00, 8:30 p.m. // The Triple Door, 216 Union St. // Tickets: $15/25

GREG LI AND HIS ANCIENT HEART: Shawn Wong will be reading from his forthcoming novel The Ancient and Occupied Heart of Greg Li tonight at the Seattle Public Library International District/Chinatown Branch. The book details the bookish introverted Greg Li, who travels down an unfamiliar road of commerce while on a trip in Europe, and the novel explores "communication on levels ranging from ancient pictographs, ancient postal systems, and Roman history to such contemporary subjects as fashion, architecture and global business."
