Pudu Debut

If upon looking at this picture your heart does not become about a million times lighter, then we feel so sorry for your cold, dark soul. Meet the cutest baby animal in the 5 state area, born last weekend at the Woodland Park Zoo. She's a Southern Pudu, the smallest deer in the world which habitates the forests of the lower Andes of Chile and southwest Argentina. They just roam around all day, eating plants and making the world a better place just by virtue of their presence. Sadly, pudus are endangered because of logging and attacks by feral dogs. (Special note to our readers in Chile: save the pudus! Neuter your dogs!)

The sixth little miracle born from its parents, who live at the zoo; she weighs in at a little over 2 pounds and is 8" tall. And she is cute. When we say cute, we mean so cute that octave of our voice escalated to a fever pitch the second we laid eyes on this little force of nature. Today marked her very first doctor's appointment, where they looked at her eyes and ears, listened to her little heartbeat, and took her temperature. You can breathe a sigh of relief knowing she got a clean bill of health and is on display for all to admire and coo over. Which you will be, because did we mention how cute she is?
